Out of bed. Monday morning. Work. Desk piled high. Deliveries due. No lunch. Soccer at 5:00. OK…filtered water into the kettle, turn on, hot water into plunger pot, carafe and cup, measure Special Aged Lintong into the grinder, grind…savor the aroma…water in kettle 205 degrees… perfect…pour out the hot water from the plunger pot, empty the coffee into the plunger pot, start timer, fill half way… mesmerized by the bloom…magnificent…stir, finish adding the water, insert plunger, cover with Rudy’s Jacket, three minutes of nothing …breathing… in…out… hear the timer, undress the plunger pot, press plunger, empty hot water from the cup and the carafe, pour a cup, empty remainder into the carafe and close, nose over cup, deep breath, first sip, back of palate...Aaaaahhhhhh…life is sooooo good!
In a fast paced world we often take simple things for granted. Rudy Baggs Coffee Roasting Company has chosen to follow, and offers, a different path. We are passionate about fresh roasted world class coffee and dedicated to fostering relationships. Rudy Baggs Coffee Roasting Company wants to take the ordinary, and transform it to the extraordinary. Fifteen years ago a seed was planted. Rob Flanders, President, Rudy Baggs Coffee Roasting Company was given a $39.95 steam “espresso” machine as a wedding gift based on his lie that he “loved expresso”…expresso? What began as a seed blossomed into a mouth watering espresso blend that flowered into a passion for fresh roasted world class coffees. “My mother-in-law once told me,” Rob notes, “You don’t know good service until you have had bad.” Well, with coffee you don’t know bad coffee until you have had good. Good coffee is predicated on fresh coffee. One of our mottos is, “Passionate About Fresh Roasted Coffee”, passionate…obsessed is much more like it. Does freshness count? Do you buy bruised apples, black spotted tomatoes or stale artisan bread? Unfortunately, some will give lip service to freshness while selling a pound of last week’s coffee. As most of you know and (if you are lucky) remember, that first taste of truly fresh roasted world class coffee was an enlightening “whoa, who turned on the lights” experience. When we learned that coffee once roasted in whole bean form significantly looses its flavor characteristics in 7-10 days, we felt violated. All those years upon years of drinking coffee, believing that it was good coffee…and as it turned out…it was not even coffee. And now, we are on a mission! For us, everything starts with integrity. Not just ours, the coffee’s - our coffee. If we can not maintain the integrity of our product how can we have integrity? For the customer, they begin to know our integrity from our coffee. To preserve the integrity of the coffee Rudy Baggs Coffee Roasting Company specializes in weekly home delivery. Rudy’s Coffee Club Members receive the amount they will consume in that week. Depending on their palate, we rotate 8-10 coffees on a weekly basis. Not only are Rudy’s members guaranteed fresh roasted world class coffee, they experience a variety of flavor profiles all within their palate range. As a small artisan roaster we believe that what sets us apart is not only our passion but our willingness to sell less rather than more. Why sell a pound of coffee when the customer will only consume 8 ounces before it is stale? How can we promote, “Store it in the freezer” when we know the impact on the coffee? As Rudy says, “You can buy stale over roasted coffee anywhere…just not here.”
